June 30: Darlington Schoolhouse Restoration

As the future headquarters of the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, the Darlington Schoolhouse, a beloved historic landmark in our municipality, has been undergoing many renovations to transform it into the public face of the Trail Conference. Since MEVO’s inception, the NYNJTC has been one of our closest partners, so this month we are going to help them with the effort! Volunteers will be working around the building to remove some weeds and other debris in the area, and, with the help of the Mahwah DPW, volunteers will be removing evergreen trees from the front of the building and transplanting them at Winters Pond across town. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of the Ramapo Valley County Reservation in Mahwah, NJ at 10 AM and we will carpool to the schoolhouse from there. We should be completed with our work at about 3 PM. All proper supplies will be provided, but volunteers are advised to bring lots of water and of course clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty! To RSVP for this event, send an email to mevovolunteers@mevoearth.org with your name, age, phone number and the subject line “Darlington Schoolhouse Restoration” or call 201-566-6916. You can also RSVP through Facebook.
