The Barberry Bushes…Before and After!

On October 14th MEVO joined forces with the Bear Mountain State Park Invasive Plant Strike Force to remove a massive thicket of barberry bushes at Bear Mountain State Park. This thicket, filled with billions of intertwining thorns, proved extremely stubborn to remove. Nonetheless our volunteers were up to the task. With thorns in our clothes, and only just a few scratches, a good chunk of the barberry bushes at Bear Mountain were permanently removed. We were thanked by park visitors for restoring the native ecosystem of Bear Mountain—one cut down barberry bush at a time. But thank you MEVO volunteers—especially those from U.P.S. who decided to lend a hand—for making this restoration possible. We hope to see you guys at our next MEVO event!
